At the site of the National Bank of Greece\u2019s central building on Aiolou Street, there originally stood, during the 19th century, two separate two-storey buildings constructed in the 1840s. On the left was the Domnandos residence, which was acquired in 1845 by Georgios Stavrou and became the location of the first banking branch in liberated Greece. On the right stood the \u201cEngland\u201d Hotel, owned by entrepreneur Fragkiskos Ferraldis, which was acquired approximately a decade later as the bank\u2019s operations expanded.\n\nBoth buildings had the same number of floors and identical height, allowing them to be unified relatively easily between 1899 and 1900. Following extensive renovation works and a complete redesign of their exterior in neoclassical style, they were transformed into the unified landmark building known today.<\/p>\n
We present our distinguished intervention at the iconic neoclassical headquarters of the National Bank of Greece, located at 86 Aiolou Street \u2014 a project focused on highlighting and preserving the building\u2019s historical identity. Based on an extensive architectural study fully aligned with the building\u2019s heritage designation and preservation requirements, we carried out targeted restoration works and upgrades of high aesthetic and technical standards.<\/p>\n
The result combines faithfulness to the building\u2019s historical documentation with contemporary functional and aesthetic requirements, restoring the landmark to its original grandeur.
